Four National Health Care Leaders Join DentaQuest Foundation Board of Directors Released May 20, 2013

The DentaQuest Foundation has appointed four key leaders in the health care industry to its Board of Directors.  The new members include Alice Huan-mei Chen M.D., M.P.H, James Collins, Mary Vallier-Kaplan, MHSA, and Alonzo L. Plough, Ph.D., M.P.H.

“The new DentaQuest Foundation board members offer valuable perspectives on policy development, advocacy for oral health equity and leadership in community engagement that make them great assets to our team,” said Ralph Fuccillo, president of the DentaQuest Foundation. “We look forward to working with them to support the Foundation’s goal to improve oral health for all.”

Dr. Alice Huan-mei Chen is the Chief Integration Officer, Director of the Center for Innovation in Access and Quality, and Director of the eReferral Program at San Francisco General Hospital. She is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Her work focuses on creating policies and programs to improve access to and quality of care for underserved communities.

Mr. James Collins has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for DentaQuest since 2010; he currently oversees all finance, underwriting,
strategic planning and business intelligence functions. He has more than 25 years
of experience in the financial services industry. As a senior leader at Sun Life Financial 
and John Hancock Financial Services, he led comprehensive finance teams and drove the strategic planning process.

Dr. Alonzo L. Plough is the Director of Emergency Preparedness and Response at
the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Dr. Plough also serves as
Clinical Professor, Health Services at the University of Washington School of Public
Health. Previously, he served as Vice President of Strategy, Planning and Evaluation
for The California Endowment, director of the Seattle and King County Department of
Public Health, and the Boston Department of Health and Hospitals.

Ms. Mary Vallier-Kaplan recently retired as the founding Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Endowment for Health, New Hampshire’s largest health foundation. Under her leadership, the Endowment for Health was one of the first health conversion foundations to focus on oral health systems improvement and it implemented one of the first state oral health plans in the country.  She has more than 25 years of professional and personal experience in public and community health issues in New Hampshire.
